St Augustine History

St. Augustine is America's Oldest Permanently Settled European City and was a thriving town, long before the pilgrims and Florida Dare were born. Don Juan Ponce de Leon christened this land, naming it the "Feast of Flowers." St. Augustine was founded in 1565, fifty five years before the Mayflower landed at Plymouth rock & 32 years before Jamestown, the Spanish explorer Pedro Menendez de Aviles settled the St. Augustine area. Spanish, French, African-American, English and Native American heritages still influence the St. Augustine area today.
